When we first looked at this space for the new shop, it was mid December 2020.
“We cannot choose our external circumstances, but we can always choose how to respond to them.”
Epictetus
That week, the temperature never rose above 30 degrees.
The building had been unoccupied for many years.
It was a bare naked cave.
Exposed cinder block walls.
A 4' x 4' hole in the roof where an a/c unit was supposed to go.
No lights.
Unfinished cement floors.
No water or bathrooms.
Completely wide open from floor to ceiling.
Month after month, we revisited the site.
The pool of water that was under the gaping hole in the roof turned to ice.
Years of dirt and dust covered the entire floor.
And mountains of debris.
Little by little the debris has disappeared, the wall were insulated and sheet rocked.
We swept the floors. We swept the floors again.
We power washed the floors.
We swept some more.
We even have hot and cold running water in 2 functioning bathrooms.
Our lighting fixtures are hung from the ceiling, just waiting for the oooh's and ahhh's.
The one thing that we debated probably more than anything else was what to do about the floors.
Paint?
Epoxy?
Vinyl?
Eventually after changing our minds no les than a dozen times we settled on laminate.
The choice ultimately took all of 10 minutes.
Yesterday they started laying the floor.
They will finish tomorrow.
I have to tell you.......what a difference a floor makes.
Of all the projects in here, the walls, the a/c. the electric/ the painting, the buildouts, the floor has made all the difference.
The place is starting to look finished.
I'm not saying it is finished.
It's starting to look like we're finishing up.
It's what we need tp help us push to the end.
