War of the Worlds

“The way to happiness is what I call Zero-Based Gratitude.
Each day be happy and grateful for what you have independent of yesterday and of other people.”
Jonathan Lockwood Huie
8 p.m. Sunday October 30th,1938.
That is when Orson Welles launched his now famous broadcast War of the Worlds.
An imaginary invasion of men from Mars.
Many people listening had no idea that what they were hearing was fiction. In the aftermath, there was widespread outrage and demands for new legislation to protect the public from a media that could proport such an incident. So why do I bring this up?
Well for all I know, in today's crazy world,I could go sit in my backyard, turn on my radio and listen to John Sterling broadcast a Yankee game that really isn't happening. Who would know the difference? Fake crowd noise. Special effects sounds of a bat cracking a baseball into centerfield. All possible. 3 hours later, I can just imagine Sterling bellowing "The Yankees win.....Thaaaah Yankees Win!".
It's all a bit surreal nowadays.
We are all trying to lead "normal" lives when in reality so much is just not normal.
Baseball is back!
Really? Not so much. Not the baseball I enjoy.
NYC is all but shut down.
Unemployment is out of control.
Businesses are failing and trust me there are more to come.
And like Nero , we are all just fiddling as Rome is burning.
Now before you go thinking that I am "in a mood" or having a meltdown, I promise you I am not.
I am calm.
I am rational.
And I am sitting back and wondering what the hell happened and what do we do now.
For anyone one on the right who is screaming to just open everything up and stop all of this nonsense, I say we can't.
It's too late to second guess the choices that were made and we need a plan to fix this.
To those on the left, you have to get a grip on life as well. What we are experiencing is not life.
And if anyone says anything about a new normal I'll knock you on your ass!
There is nothing normal about any of this.
Not the deification of Dr. Fauci.
Not the incessant berating of our president.
Not the antics of a movement that is so heinously evil and divisive that we should all be outraged.
Our cities, like Rome , are literally burning.
Of course, not here in Pleasant Valley.
Here we are barbecuing and grocery shopping and listening to today's baseball game.
Or are we?
